Our research is focused on polymer nanocomposites and complexes with transport properties that rival metals and ceramics (e.g., high electrical conductivity and/or low oxygen permeability), while maintaining beneficial polymer properties (e.g., low density and mechanical flexibility). Although we investigate many aspects and properties of polymer nanocomposites, we are most strongly focused on gas barrier and gas separation membranes, flame retardant systems, and dielectric materials. We have smaller efforts in antifouling nanocoatings, antimicrobial films, unique optical behavior and mechanical properties.
